Album Notes
Saturday night. You’re approaching one of those shady amusement parks that sets up just for a weekend in that part of town you never visit. The rain has just stopped, conjuring that distinct smell, both pleasant and off-putting. You step inside and it all hits you. The screaming signs, the alien staff, the menacing rides, the crooked games, the burning lights. It’s a little scary, a little dirty, a little dark, shockingly comforting in spots, and altogether deliciously fun. A tired woman missing teeth taunts you to try a ride, and a minute later you’re in tears. Thirty seconds later, you’re eating popcorn, laughing like a mental patient. The next minute, you’re pulling gum from the bottom of your shoe as a large man in a derby hat shoves past you, sending you straight into a shallow puddle. Suddenly, you’re home. In bed. Your body still reeling from a Tilt-A-Whirl that shouldn’t be operational. You fold your arms over an angry stomach, smile, and think to yourself, “What the hell just happened?”
