Longtime blues-rock drummer Buddy Hinds has released a new CD titled Sneakin’ Out The Back Door- The Buddy Hinds Band & Kate. Kate in this case being Kate Engler. Rounding out the band are Dave Schmeidler on guitar and Frank Reino on bass. The CD was recorded live at The Tralf in downtown Buffalo.
The sixty minute CD is made up of originals written by Hinds and Engler, some contemporary blues from the likes of Debbie Davies and the Uppity Women Blues group and some standards like “Bo Diddley” and the Airplane’s “White Rabbit”.
The real standout here is Kate Engler. Her soulful blues voice raises her songs a notch higher than the others. She commands your attention whether through her singing or her rhythm guitar playing. She especially shines on the lead off track “Breakin’ All The Rules”. Also of note are the tracks “This Dance Is Taken” and “Better Off With The Blues”.
The boys also rock out on a couple of tunes like “Trigger Happy” and the Frank Reino showcase song “You Don’t Love Me”. Throughout the CD Hinds drumming propels each song along and Schmeidler’s guitar playing is incredible.
